History

The ECOLAND organization's history began with the RURAL team which was active from 2006 to 2013 with support from the Fonds de Solidarité Prioritaire and Royal University of Agriculture (RUA). ECOLAND was officially founded in January 2014 by a group of early-career researchers and lecturers from RUA and French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development, IRD. The organization's relationship with IRD dates back even further, to 2013, when it began hosting IRD researchers such as Dr. Philippe Meral and Dr. Jean Philippe Venot. As of 2021, ECOLAND has established a permanent physical base at the RUA Graduate School, where it shares an office building.
