Tackling antimicrobial resistance in the Cambodian poultry sector via improved husbandry practices and prudent antimicrobial use: This project aims to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Cambodia’s poultry sector by improving husbandry practices and promoting responsible antibiotic use. Through targeted interventions, the project seeks to reduce antimicrobial use (AMU) and antibiotic use (ABU) by 20% in broiler production. It will focus on implementing Good Broiler Husbandry Practices (GBHP) for farmers and Prudent Use Guidelines (PUG) for veterinarians. The project will evaluate the impact on AMU/ABU reduction, broiler productivity, and socio-economic outcomes. Data will be collected using both qualitative and quantitative methods, and recommendations will be made for policy changes and certification systems to scale up effective practices. Running from March 2025 to December 2027, the project is funded by the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) with a budget of over 500K USD. It is a collaborative effort between the Royal University of Agriculture, the General Directorate of Animal Health and Production (GDAHP), CP Cambodia, and Agronomes et Vétérinaires sans Frontières (AVSF).
