The Kyoto University International Symposium on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies in Asia is one of the activities that the GSGES has promoted for international collaboration in education and research since the GSGES’ establishment. The GSGES has been organizing it annually, providing an opportunity for researchers and students from partner universities in various countries to come together and participate in discussions.

Panel Discussion
The Kyoto University International Symposium 2024 on Global Environmental Studies in Asia took place in a hybrid format on December 3, with the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) in Phnom Penh as the main venue. The event gathered 360 participants from 48 organizations across 14 countries, mainly in Asia.
Opening remarks were delivered by Kyoto University President Nagahiro Minato, GSGES Dean Chihiro Tanaka, Professor Hirohide Kobayashi, and RUA Rector Ngo Bunthan. Keynote speeches by GSGES Vice Dean Izuru Saizen and RUA Vice Rector Huon Thavrak highlighted research activities and educational models developed through international collaboration. Young researchers and students then presented posters in three thematic fields: Environmental Technology, Natural Resources, and Global Ecology, fostering lively discussions.
The afternoon featured a panel discussion with representatives from leading universities, focusing on strengthening curricula through inter-university collaboration. A collaborative session explored research cooperation opportunities. The symposium concluded with an awards ceremony for Best Poster recipients and closing remarks by RUA Vice Rector Huon Thavrak.
This event served as a vital platform for interdisciplinary and international networking, enhancing curricula, and advancing collaborative research, laying the groundwork for future cooperation toward sustainability.
